Film did not got in the short film competition, im thinking there may have been a chance that is was removed due to breach of the rules or that its was just not very good, I would have liked to have gone down south for a day out but think I got a lot from doing all this work in the film so may be next year I’ll get other people who really want to enter something.
Im now one day away from starting my 2 weeks holidays and for the first 4 days it will be nothing but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but for the remaining 10 days I will be in Nepal, I have a friends wedding to go to but thought I would take a little longer over there and have a little break. I am really looking forward to the change in life for a week or so, I think it will be a unforgettable time.
The World of apple, Macbook pro to be more specific keeps getting better and better. The thing that had hit me in the past few days is the power of this thing, not just one thing but every component is very quick. I ran a screening for a friend last night from my mac and lets be honest running a video is not very demanding. To get the equipment set up I had to run a virtual windows 7, at the same time I my desktop running 1440×900 and my extended desktop running at 2048×1080, then I opened mail and it did not even slow down.
So I can see most people running macs through Tv’s or home projectors, I get to play with some more high end stuff, last night for this short film I had my mac plugged in to a £4000 scalier which was plugged in to a £35000 NEC2500 putting a 2048×1080 image on a screen 35 foot wide with 15 fLB on screen. We are the Avatar trailer of my mac as a test and it looked as good as what we get from our digital servers.
Im also now loving my new 3Gs, its just a nice quick update, I think the camera takes a much better image and even the video looks good.
As for word its been a few hard weeks, a nightmare of a film festival for 3 days did take a lot of attention but the rest of the building still needs running so I think they way im feeling now looks as if I ran at 150%. How ever much hard work it was it was still interesting and challenging and its nice to have a challenge every now and then. We ran Digi Beta, Beta Cam, Beta CamSR, 35mm, dvd, Blu-ray and some stuff in NTSC making things more complicated. The problems did not come from the different media but in the frame rates everything was set at, as the player was a loan and not through us we could not play 23.98 and 24 fps, so any tape in this frame rate would not play or go out of sync, its just hard when you care about what you put in screen.
So apart from feeling knackered from a very busy week, I have the flu and have only just started to feel better from the jabs for Nepal. I could do with starting to feel better before I do the midnight at Game for MW2,
iphoto training September 11, 2009

so apple offer some free training when you buy a mac, you can go to your local apple store and book in for some free training on most things. i decided to go in for the iphoto training, im good with computers but having a new mac its all slightly different to what i am used to.
i have to say that the iphoto software is very well though out, just being able to manage so many photos in a very easy way is perfect. the smart folders are just fantastic giving you the power to filter all of your photos in a very quick and easy way.
the faces part of iphoto is amazing, just tag a few photos of different people then iphoto runs off and finds more photos of that person.
im thinking its going to take a little time to go through all of my photos but once its done i think my life of photos will quick and easy.
the first few days of mac’ing it up September 8, 2009

so its taking some getting used too, i know it may sound odd but things are just a little too simple, uninstall a program, just drop it in the trash, that little thing took me about 20 mins to work out.
i have to say even with the software i am feeling the 2.8 duel core, 4GB ram and top end graphics card its just soooo nice, the screen, keybourd, just everything.
now the software is takeing some getting used to, i think its just finding out the little things that every mac user knows and im sure i will get there in the end. im looking forward to getting stuck in with final cut pro, i happy with premier pro but whats the point of having a mac and not using the best?

Ok I love computers, always have, think I got that from my dad with his old 486DX2 with turbo. I love messing round with them and building new systems, its just something that’s has always entertained me.
With the interest in computers and the skills you pick up from just working with them a lot comes the “can you help” problem. Well its not a problem but I do tend to help out more and more friends and family members when it comes to things not working, I don’t mind but sometimes it is like I speak a different language.
So to the Mac, my Step mum uses her laptop for design and work but its a old laptop that has needed to be upgraded for some time in my opinion. She has been interested in getting a Mac and one day in conversation she asked how much one would cost, I told her it would be around £2000 as she would have to me one so when I get called I know how to fix the problem. She said yes! Now I don’t want the low end macbook as my laptop had a better spec, I asked for the mid range pro, yes!
Now until I have it in my hands nothing is for sure, this is true but there is a bigger chance than last week of me getting a macbook pro.
I have to say having a iphone apple are good at what they do, and with the ability to run windows 7 as part of the boot camp you get the best of both worlds. Just hope it comes true.

Vista: hard work doing the right thing. May 2, 2009

I have been and still are a windows user, I can see the attraction to the mac but I have yet to take the leap in to the mac world as of yet, I know windows and dot yet see the need to move OS’s.
I am running Vista on both my desktop and laptop, I can see why people have problems with it but I think when you know what you are doing you can get rid of the thing you don’t want or need and make it a more reliable and faster system. My laptop have vista pre installed but my desktop I decided to buy, I’ll be honest I got a OEM addition as I build my own computers and at the time there was a large price difference between the 2, last week I got a windows message after boot saying my version of vista needs to be authenticated, I have had this before so didn’t really make me worry, why I would get this is the first place as I use windows update and the desktop is always connected to the internet I don’t know but I did.
After going through the ways windows wanted me to connect to get this done it turned out that non would work, not a problems as I bought a really copy of vista so why would there be a problem in getting this fixed? Well after spending what felt like 5 hours trying to get through to a real person I did and they could not help. It had got to a point where I the work I would have to put in to get my system back up and running was going to take more time than I was going to put in.
Without going to the too much detail why is it easier to download, install and run and a version of windows latest OS without any problems than it is to buy, install and run a windows vista? Its almost like the things put in place to make sure you have a really OS are the things that make people get a questionable version.
I want to pay, I don’t want to pay over the odds, if Apple can make an OS for around £50 why cant windows? Lets hope windows 7 will be something different.
Iphone, Mobile me, Google calendar, Outlook all working together! March 5, 2009

So having a iphone has started to make slight changes in the way I plan for, well life. The calendar in the iphone is just fantastic and if you know me you know remembering things would not be a strong point, I have found it very easy to jot down a reminder and hey I don’t need to remember. Another good thing my self and my lovely girl friend don’t real work set hours so getting days off together can be a challenge sometimes, Google calendar has a wonderful way of letting you set up people who you can share your calendar with, so she can put her hours down and I know when she is working.
Now Mobile me is a online service offered by Apple which keeps all of your computers sync with each other when it comes to calendars, contacts, web pages ect, it is £50 for the year but you can get 30 days free which I’m giving a go. One thing which is nice to see from the battling giants is that Outlook can sync with mobile me and it works well so contacts and calendars are sync with no problems. the good things about mobile me is if you make a change to a contact on let’s say your iphone this is sent to all if your computers set up, same with calendars.
Now the iphone can sync with the Google calendar but it’s a very ‘around the house’ way of doing things and all it takes it Google or apple to change something and it no longer works but outlook has no problems syncing with Google.
So my iphone calendar syncs with mobile me, mobile me then to outlook, outlook to Google calendar. And it works no matter when you add the information so something gets added to outlook and mobile me, iphone and Google get updated.
I’m sure there will be something that pops up as I have only, in the last few hours got everything working together, I think on things that needs looking in to is the multiple calendars (ie different events) as I’m unsure if everything will sync.

So after just getting a iphone I have stepped in the wonderful world of applications that are available for the iphone. Now before I talk about the application I want to make sure everyone knows, I am a P.C, its just Apple makes better phones.
Ok the application is a remote control application to be used with a windows based computer, it works via the network as long as your iphone is connected to your home network along with your laptop/desktop your good to go. To get it installed you need the app and the software for your computer. Visit http://melloware.com/download/ and get the software for your computer and make sure the firewall is not blocking the program, once you have it up and running you need to put the IP address of the computer you want to control in to the settings and for me it worked straight away.
You can do a lot, you can access itunes, winamp, media portal, BS player, power DVD, media centre and media player just to name a few, you can also control the mouse via the iphone and you can also access the keyboard.
I know its not going to change your life, but if you play a lot of your music and watch videos from your computer it comes in very handy.
Windows 7 January 8, 2009

Lets talk windows 7, windows 7 is going to be the next operating system from Microsoft and on the back of Vista it need to be a good one, personally I don’t have any problems with Vista and kind of like it. I admit that it has its problems and copying files and getting driver have always been harder than it should be, I did have high hopes for Vista and I think, like most of the world, these expectations were not met. Its not bad, just not as good as it could be.
So Windows 7, Due for release in 2010 at the start but now the date seems to be more like mid 2009 and good. From what I can tell it is really a vista base and all they are going to do is fix it and add some extras to make it more up to date. So its going to look better, be easier to use and one of the main extras is going to be the touch factor, a lot of multi touch aspects for all aspects of the OS.
I can be honest, Mac OS is a good OS and its very easy to use, it has both sides covered, its easy for the people who have problems turning the computer on and complex enough for people who get the old 486DX2 jokes but its just not for me, I like it but if I ever got a Mac I would, 100%, have XP/Vista/Windows 7 installed on it. As times move on I’m starting to see both Os’s come together, both of them picking up ideas from one another and both having problems (well Mac’s more recently as they grow in success) but after seeing Windows 7 I would say that this is the next step in bringing both OS’s closer.
As for Windows 7 its just fantastic, quick (quicker than Vista), very quick boot up, easy to install, no problems with drivers at all (it installed easier than vista for some devices), running a duel desktop works wonderfully well (much better that vista). I could go on and could even list every new thing that’s going be on there but I’m sure there will be someone else with more finesse with words than me will explain it all.
The Few things that made me smile, one is the option to have the wallpaper changing at set intervals (yes I know the Mac dose this) and how easy the display setting are, I could have installed the ATI controller software but windows 7 handled it very well. There are little things like the way you can now see different things by just hovering over the tool bar icons and each area splits down in to different windows, I found it very easy to manage my desktop when having 10 windows open. The organisation of my documents seams just to be better laid out and no longer a hunt for the file or folder.
I’m a user of media center and use if for music, videos and tv. The jump from media center 2005 to the most recent Vista was a big one, the vista version just flowed better and worked most of the time. The Windows 7 media center has just built on the success of that and is just fantastic, very easy to use. New functions like the rip you dvd’s and have all the information there, having folders set up for much more specific file formats which then makes sure the information is displayed in the correct location (now with art for movies).
Anyway here are some photos of some of the newer options.
