Hello blogging land, hope you are having fun doing whatever you do.

So life, well its very nice having a new bike to play with, bring back some really good memories of my youth, fuck I sound old. Well it is nice being out and about, found some nice routs along the cannel which takes you out of the centre of Manchester, it must be 5 mins on the bike and im out in the open, quite surprising. I have seen some other routs I would like to go on but my lovely girl friend is still waiting on her bike so I think it would be a little mean to go out without her.

We did go to centre parks this weekend which happens to be really nice, I did have some slight reservations on what it was going to be like but it was spot on, this small get away was in aid of her dads 60th so it was a small break with all of my girl friend’s family, a little scary but it went well, I feel I got to know them a little more than just the usual afternoon visits.

Dont know what really to talk about, I seem to be up to the usual things, going to some good gigs, have drinks with friends, now I have my bike so I can look at the keeping fit side of things and then you cram birthdays and such a alike and im busy. i think one thing I need to get better at is the long term planning, you know like getting tickets to go see bands or planning trips with friends in a few months, I think my mind works in a very now, tomorrow, next week sort of way but going away this weekend showed me that with a little planning you may have to wait but it normally turns out good.

Right need to go do some work,

No man’s land December 29, 2008

I do like to think of the time after Christmas and just before new years as no man’s land, no one is quite sure what to do, we all go back to work for a few days knowing we will be off aging for some fun and drinking so we kind of just get through. To be honest it’s a nice break from drinking as the last 5 days have been hard on the old liver, but it is the festive time and fun is to be had.

So after doing 350 miles in 3 days it all worked out well, I had a really nice festive time even with all the drinking involved. I got my really nice retro Casio watch so now I can tell the time without looking at the sun, Christmas would not be Christmas without socks, YAY! Some supper cool t-shirts (Best is the silver surfer), box of smelly stuff, beer (YAY again) a board game (thanks to the girl friends brother for keeping it retro) and cash, 28 and I still get cash off my parents, its just awesome. So with my new cash flow I decide to sink some of it in to more of a musical fund, yes Guitar Hero 4, I can now play with all the greats and sound just as good and it’s just so cool.

So as I said it’s the few days of winding down and its welcome after the Manchester – Sheffield – Manchester – Liverpool – bury – Manchester – Liverpool – Manchester 3 days, it’s a good job I love my car. So I’m just coming to the end of the first of 2 days at work, nice 13 hour days though so tomorrow will just be as long as today but then I’m off for a few days and back for one before being off for a few days again. It’s a good job as I have a list of things to do around the flat one of which is play guitar hero but that seems to be missing of the list my girl friend gave me, strange, typo maybe?

I think this Christmas will be remembered for all the people I got to see, I nearly got to see everyone who I care about over the 4 days and I got it done without someone being unhappy I was late or not there on such a day, its been a while since it all came together this well, that said I’m going away next year.

Good afternoon one and all,

So I have a week off, had to take some time at some point and seeing as I have about 3 weeks left I thought now was as good a time as any. So what I’m I going to do? Well apart from playing on some new Xbox 360 games I go the other day looking a flats would be one of the main things, got about 13 booked in for Monday and another 4 on Wednesday, I hope to find a new place to live out of that list but if not I have some time to have another look around.

Got a really nice email of my boss, his boss and then his boss for all the work I had put in over the last week and the problems at work, you know I never expected it but I cant tell you what a good feeling you can get from something so simple as an email, I think its just the fact that tease people took time out of there day to say thanks, its nice.

To leave you with something I spotted walking round the other day,

Can this be called an ‘Action Figure’ hahaha, this is just not right.

Nothing really to report, the film is coming but I still have 8 days till I get to see it.

One thing that did pop in to my mind is the day, I’m going to be watching it in the 12th at around 11pm, I’m going to Manchester’s Summer in the Park music festival that day. Its in Platt Fields and its on the 12th and 13th of July 08. The line up for both days looks really good, I’m not going to sit here typing them all up, don’t be lazy just click.

There is still a slight problem with this as well and that is my girl friend has not booked the day off from work and now she cant get it off, so I have to find someone else to go with which should not be a problem but I have this image in the back of my mind of me in a field drunk, drink more as I’m alone and then going to watch what may just be the best film this year, I would like to remember it in some way. Grrrrrrr

Capital of culture, Liverpool sound June 5, 2008

As most people know Liverpool won the Capital of Culture and they have been very busy spending lots of money to get ready for the event planned, I’m sure they won it quite some time ago. One of the big openings of this time for Liverpool was the Liverpool Sound, this was a big concert at Anfield in Liverpool, it was on Sunday just gone. You could not just buy tickets, you had to enter draw and if you were picked then you could get the chance to buy tickets, my girl friend was one of the lucky ones to win and she got tickets a few months back.

The line up consisted of The Zutons, The Kaiser Chiefs and Paul McCartney, there was also talk of a special guest which turned out to be true. So getting there was ok as my girl friend parents live over in Liverpool so we parked up there are got a life, didn’t take too long to get in and get some food and a drink. But like most big events that was the last drink we got as the queues where huge and it would have taken about 50mins just to get another drink, it did change our plans to stay in Liverpool as now I could drive back.

So the first up were The Zutons and they were very good, you could see how much they were enjoying playing to their home crowed. And it was about time I got to see a saxophone in action. I’m not the biggest follower of the Zutons but all the tracks I did know were played perfectly.

Next up was the Kaiser Chiefs who were fantastic, not just in singing and playing music but in getting the crowed going, to see a football stadium the size of Anfield doing the Mexican wave was great, they played some new songs, that new you could see him reading the stuff of a couple of sheets of paper on the floor, they also played some of the more well know songs which were just awesome live, it really got everyone going for the main attraction.

So it was starting to get dark, the atmosphere in the area was fantastic, we all were there for really one thing and that was to watch Sir Paul McCartney play liver in Liverpool. After seeing him live you can see why people take about him being such a good performer, it was just amazing. He played some of his new tracks and basically went back thorough the greats of his back catalogue. He also had a few medleys and even got ‘Give peace a chance’ in there. He also made a touching tributes to George Harrison – on ‘Blackbird’ and ‘Something’. The special guest of the evening turned out to be Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters how did a little drumming and some rocking guitar. All in all it was a very special night, topped off with Live and Let die explosive show and a huge fireworks display at the end of the night. I think its going to be one of them gigs I will be telling people about for many years to come.

Camping May 22, 2008

I went camping last weekend, I would like to tell you where I went but I’m not exactly sure. I know it was in Wales and I know it was north, it is kind of on the very north tip, near that big power plant. I know it would appear that I had no idea where I was going but I did, it was just that GPS was telling me where to go. So anyway we wrere camping for my friend’s birthday, so me, my girl friend and Brain Splat all went over to Liverpool to pick the birthday girl up and then we were off. Once we got to the camp site to find that it only opens in august we then set off aging to find another and we did. It looked like one of those big houses you see in the film where everyone gets killed by the crazy lady, the lady happened to be nice but I’m sure they all are just before they kill you. We turned up and set up our tents and off we went for a walk before we tacked the BBq. The weather was not very nice, cold and raining but we were not going to let that get us down and just got on with it, we had a good walk and went around the cost for some time before it was time to get the BBq going. Now Brain Splat is one of the best BBQ’ers in the world and even though it was very windy and raining he still got all the food cooked and it was a wonderful meal.

So after a lot to drink we all went off to sleep just to wake up to a wonderfully sunny day, and what did we do with this day? Found a beach and sat there and what a nice day it was, did a little snooping around the rocks and has a few ice creams and burnt my nose but all in all it was wonderful. Didn’t get back till late and still felt knackered but it was a wonderful few days away and if I could remember where we went I would go again.

Quick update April 18, 2008

Hi all, I went to Chester Zoo the other day. I got a voucher from work and I’m glad I did as even at half price it cost about £30 for the day, now I don’t know if it’s me getting old but that’s a lot of money just for the zoo. Well if I am getting older I still love the zoo and I think no matter how old I get I will never not love the zoo.

We are getting closer to Costner chaos night where myself and some other movie lovers watch Kevin Costner films back to back all night in to the wee hours of the morning, I know Kevin is not the best Hollywood has to offer but that is the idea, he has been around for donkeys years and has don’t many films. This is the same weekend where I get to go down for my single seater driving thing at Silverstone which I’m really looking forward to.

Apart from that it’s been a normal week if you don’t count the work night out I had singing away in one of the Karaoke pods at Tiger Tiger, well I don’t really like to sing, I’m happy with the knowledge I cant sing but I did have a little sing song when it was forced up on me.

Hi everyone,

Ok lets start the blog, got a day off the other day and decided to get out and see some of our local heritage. Set off from Ramsbottom (not the nicest name for a village) but its at the bottom of Holcombe hill. At the top of Holcombe hill is Peel Tower which is built and named after Sir Robber Peel, he was Prime Minister 1841 to 1846 and the founder of the modern police force, hence the name Bobbys for police. So you can park at the bottom and walk up to the top, its not a long walk and when you get up there you can see for miles. The plan was to get some food in the town, walk up and have our lunch at the top which would have worked well if not for the freezing wind and the snow. It was still nice anyway.

We went to watch Jose Gonzalez last night at the Opera House, I have like Jose for some time but never had chance to see him live, like I said in a earlier post we booked the tickets a long time ago and I had completely forgotten about it until a few days before. So the night, well first off we got seats on the front row right in the middle so there was plenty of let room which was a nice change in the Opera house, the support act was good, Death Vessel which the name gave me the impression it would be rock, I don’t think I was the only one but it was anything but rock, Joel Thibodeau was very good, all he had was his acoustic guitar and I wonderfully distinct voice. To be honest if I had got the CD I would have said (70%) he was a girl. It is a wonderful voice and some very good songs. Right to the main act, most bands/artist sound fantastic on a cd and they should, they have probably worked on recording the single or album for some time to make it perfect, but being live they don’t have that luxury and they have to show the people who have paid to watch them that they can play and sing and Jose Gonzalez did and did it well. He sounded amazing and for me played better that his CD. To start the night just Jose came on and gave us some amazing songs and at some points I could not quite believe that it was just him playing one guitar as it sounded like there were 2 of them, half way through he was joined on stage by Joel Thibodeau and another person (who I cant find the name of) and this went on for half of the set, after 4/5 song Jose went back to solo for another 4 songs or so then the other 2 came back on for the last few. I have to say Teardrops was my highlight song but my girlfriend thought Hand on your hart was the better.

I went to Manchester Art Gallery the other day and not because it was close to payday and I was looking for something free to do and out of the rain but because they had an exhibit which I wanted to see. I think I can appreciate art but I’m my own way and this exhibit is for me. They have on show in the main foyer 2 huge metal objects, I was going to describe what they look like but after reading what the Manchester Art Gallery say I think I just cut and paste.

“Choe U-ram combines the latest precision engineering technologies with art to create robotic sculptures with echoes of organic forms. He uses cut and polished metals, machinery and electronics to create kinetic sculptures inspired by sea creatures and plant life. In a UK first for the artist, Choe U-ram is exhibiting two enormous robotic works, Urbanus Female and Urbanus Male, in the gallery’s atrium.”

And before I go don’t forget the new Hell Boy trailer is now out along with a new clip from Iron Man.

Me and My Dads first gig March 28, 2008

So my dad got tickets for the Van Der Graaf Generators who were playing at the Manchester Royal Northern Collage of Music on Wednesday just gone and seeing as he could not find anyone to go with him I decided to give it a go. Now the Van Der Graaf Generators have been going since 1967 and one of their first gigs was in Manchester, well it would be as they were all studying at Manchester University. They did break up but got back for a reunion 1975 – 1978 and made 3 new albums in 12 months. They got back together in 2005 and have been going since, it was not the full line up and I think it missed Dave Jackson (saxophone and flute) but Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton and Guy Evans were fantastic.

I don’t think I would have gone if not for my dad but I’m glad he wanted to go as it was a good gig, one thing I did get from who they played is how their music has influenced music I hear today, with their quick tempo changes for a few seconds or for the rest of the song.

One quick note, I did notice that most of the people there were older than I am, I bit older. There was no point in the gig were there wasn’t someone going to the toilet, guess that’s something we all can look forward to.

Last year for Christmas I got a Microlight flight and really enjoyed it, it was nice getting something that I would not go out and get myself. This year I got something where I get a little more control, I got a track day at Silverstone, I get to spend most of the day driving round the 5,141 km track. To start with I get to go round in just a normal car with some safety extras but after that I get to move up until I get a F3 car to play with. I have driven for many years and enjoy it, now I get to do it without traffic jams, speed cameras or cops to slow me down. I have it booked for the 27th April (more of a reminder to me).

Got to go,
