Film did not got in the short film competition, im thinking there may have been a chance that is was removed due to breach of the rules or that its was just not very good, I would have liked to have gone down south for a day out but think I got a lot from doing all this work in the film so may be next year I’ll get other people who really want to enter something.

Im now one day away from starting my 2 weeks holidays and for the first 4 days it will be nothing but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but for the remaining 10 days I will be in Nepal, I have a friends wedding to go to but thought I would take a little longer over there and have a little break. I am really looking forward to the change in life for a week or so, I think it will be a unforgettable time.

The World of apple, Macbook  pro to be more specific keeps getting better and better. The thing that had hit me in the past few days is the power of this thing, not just one thing but every component is very quick. I ran a screening for a friend last night from my mac and lets be honest running a video is not very demanding. To get the equipment set up I had to run a virtual windows 7, at the same time I my desktop running 1440×900 and my extended desktop running at 2048×1080, then I opened mail and it did not even slow down.

So I can see most people running macs through Tv’s or home projectors, I get to play with some more high end stuff, last night for this short film I had my mac plugged in to a £4000 scalier which was plugged in to a £35000 NEC2500 putting a 2048×1080 image on a screen 35 foot wide with 15 fLB on screen. We are the Avatar trailer of my mac as a test and it looked as good as what we get from our digital servers.

Im also now loving my new 3Gs, its just a nice quick update, I think the camera takes a much better image and even the video looks good.

As for word its been a few hard weeks, a nightmare of a film festival for 3 days did take a lot of attention but the rest of the building still needs running so I think they way im feeling now looks as if I ran at 150%. How ever much hard work it was it was still interesting and challenging and its nice to have a challenge every now and then. We ran Digi Beta, Beta Cam, Beta CamSR, 35mm, dvd, Blu-ray and some stuff in NTSC making things more complicated. The problems did not come from the different media but in the frame rates everything was set at, as the player was a loan and not through us we could not play 23.98 and 24 fps, so any tape in this frame rate would not play or go out of sync, its just hard when you care about what you put in screen.

So apart from feeling knackered from a very busy week, I have the flu and have only just started to feel better from the jabs for Nepal. I could do with starting to feel better before I do the midnight at Game for MW2,

Friends moving on July 22, 2009

I just hate it when friends move on, not for them for me. It hasn’t happened too often but a few times in the past few years. I’m talking about friends who you just know and have something to say once or twice a week but friends who you see 5/6 times a week. The people who you talk to and would trust.

We its here once again, I have worked with him for the past 5 years, its not like he is going to be moving a few hour’s drive away, its a 17 hour flight! People say it wont be the last time you will get to see him and I have to say they are right but not by much, I think due to the distance it just feels shit but I understand why he is moving.

If you think about it you love your family but you don’t get to pick who they are, you friends on the other hand are the people you get to pick, and normally its by chance that you meet or get on, that’s what I like about it, nothing is forced or predetermined it’s just fate

Still crap tho

2 Years to send a Text January 27, 2009

2 years seems like a long time to send a text, your right but not for this text. I have mentioned that my Sister and Dad don’t talk and have not had more than 2 very short conversations in the past 13 years and now I think they have both just got used to the fact that the other person in not longer in their lives, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that its just the way our minds work. Well I speak to both of them which is a good thing, I never feel like in stuck in the middle of things and get on well with both sides, but being in this situation I have always felt the only one who could bring my dad and sister back together is me, I’m in the perfect position. The down side is that I push too much and end up in a worse situation than I’m in and that’s the thing that really scares me.

For many years now, well around the last 3 its something that has been playing on my mind more and more, I know getting them in the same room would be too much to start with, I think letters take too much time, telephone calls you can run out of things to say so email was an idea, you can have time to plan what you are going to say, they are much easier to reply to and it’s a little disconnected which I think will help in this instants.

So the text message thing, I know my dad would be ok with the email thing its getting my sister on the same side, I have been spending a little more time with my sister working with her on a project and I felt it was time as I did quite a few favours for her that I could ask her to do one for me, so after many many pints last night I finial got the courage to text my little sister asking her if it was ok for me to pass on her email address and she said yes, I cant tell you how happy that makes me even now just typing it in to this blog.

I don’t know whats going to happen and I’m trying not to think about it to much but I think I have made the move, i just have to wait.

So at work Christmas eve with only 2 hours left to go before I can start my 4 days off, doing the usual this year and spending most of the day in the car driving from family member to family member. I don’t really mind too much as I get to see everyone I want to but it would be nice one day just to have the full day without having to go anywhere, once I get over to Liverpool in the evening a can relax and have a drink or two.

So Merry Christmas to one and all (nice film quote!) I hope all is well in this festive time of year and fun is had.

Change of Job? October 7, 2008

So there is a job that has just come up that I think I’m going to apply for, its working for the same company but at a different site and I would be the boss so one up on my current role. Its more money but with a 20min drive (free parking tho) against my 10 min walk.

I think the job would be easier against my current role, like most jobs when you go up one you end up with more responsibility but that’s nothing I’m scared of.

I just think its odd, I really really enjoy where I work now. I would with some of the best people I have ever had the pleaser of working with, they are just so nice and I know my job inside and out and I’m challenged most of the time, I good at what I do so why change? I not really board with my job.

The money in the new job is good and would be welcome, I think the job has challenges to offer and I think they could be fun, I think I would have more of a home life as the work load would be less, I think it’s a step up, its operationally the same size as where I am, I think there are things to change that would improve the way the place runs, I think it would be mine,

Ok good Vs bad

Bad-

More travelling

Bad traffic

Fewer complexes (I like challenges)

Not my team

More petrol

Good –

More money

My own department

Responsibility

Set up

Top of my game

Fewer complexes (it’s also a good thing)

Chance to offer real changes

I am going to apply for it as an interview is a 2 way thing, I do have an amount of money in my mind which they would have to meet.

I don’t know, no one like change.

Holiday September 30, 2008

So I find myself just over half way through my holidays, it’s really nice having 2 weeks off together and this is only the 2nd time I have ever done it, I think you get a week in and you realise you have another week left, its cool.

So first week was relaxing, we as much as I could. I started to watch a TV show called Entourage, it is set around a movie star and all his friends who keep his world going round, it may not sound that interesting but it’s a very good show, an Emmy award winning show and its from HBO (The Wire, Sex and the City) so you know it should be good.

You can watch season 5 now on UK tv but I would advise if you like just one episode go and get season 1-4, its just a really easy, funny show to watch and if you enjoy movies it gives you some idea to the world behind the stars. Another really nice thing is the amount of cameos from big stars.

Its bit of a big week for all the TV views around the world. Not only do we see the start of season 2 of Californication, It is like Sex and the City for blokes and David Duchovny plays a wonderful part and its good to see him on the little screen again. Heroes season 3 is now back and its has some work to do with a poor season 2, well the end of season 2, well it was down to the righter’s strike but the season was finished off very very quickly. We also see the start of season 2 of Chuck, I think it’s a funny show but I’m a bit of a geek and its that type of show most of the time. Another show back up and running is The Unit, a special secret army in America, when all else fails you give these fella’s a call.

Not just TV!

I have done some painting around the flat, just some touch ups here and there, I have to take my car in for a service which will be the 1st service I have every paid for, I used to do all my own servicing on my cars but I thought it was time with a newer car I would get it done correctly. I have been out drinking quite a few nights and it been fun, managed to get a few bands in there while drinking as well, even managed to catch a friends band which I had been meaning to do for some time. We were going to go swimming today but after a heavy night of drinking the lovely girl friend didn’t feel too good this morning so I kinda got out of that! Yay!

Deposit September 4, 2008

So after a long battle with the DPS as they didn’t have me down as the lead tenant it would seem that things are going well, I put my claim in to get the full deposit back and now the status has changed to ‘Possessing Payment Request’. I’m not 100% what these means but I would say it means things are moving on. I would like to point out one thing, when I came to pay the money came out of my bank on the day, when I come to get it back it takes weeks! Why is this? One a silver lining I get the interest back which pumps up the total to £740. Now its just down to when will I get the money back.

I have to remember that there was a chance that I was not going to et all of it back and I had set a goal of £600 so there is a bit more to pay with now, did I say play with? I mean spend on a TV!

A week and a bit in September 3, 2008

So its been just over a week and my new flat is starting to feel like home, I had my old flat inspection a few days ago and I thought there would have been a few things deducted but nothing was so I should be getting it all back if the DPS gets there finger out.

I have started to notice how long everything takes, it takes mim 10 days for the deposit to come back to me. Internet, 2 weeks! Why do thing take so long and this is quicker that say a year ago. May be its just me.

So anyway going to get a new TV with the deposit, that started at £411 for a 37 inch LCD and has now gone up to £587 for a good quality 37 inch LCD, I’m hoping I don’t find a better one than that in a few weeks. Finally got my car in its car parking space but it takes some time to get it in and out each time (see the photo).

Well I wish I could stay and chat some more but I’m at work (ITS GOT INTERNET THANK GOD) and I have to go.

Moving Day August 27, 2008

Well I have moved, it took me the last 2 days and I still have a few things to get from the old flat, not quite sure where all this stuff came from. It was not an easy day as it was just me moving everything, I had a trolly which made the heavy lifting very easy but it was nice to go at my own speed, I think even if I had a army of people helping me move it still would have been a long day.

Its slightly odd being in a new place, don’t forget before my last flat I lived in a house for about 7 years, the last flat homed me for 1 ½ years so I’m still getting used to the moving around, I think at the moment it feels a little like a hotel just with all my stuff here. And it everything you expect from moving, nothing really has its place yet, you get things out of boxes just to put them back as you have no where to put them but I’m sure a trip to Ikea for some storage solutions would help.
