Life update – November 7, 2009

Film did not got in the short film competition, im thinking there may have been a chance that is was removed due to breach of the rules or that its was just not very good, I would have liked to have gone down south for a day out but think I got a lot from doing all this work in the film so may be next year I’ll get other people who really want to enter something.
Im now one day away from starting my 2 weeks holidays and for the first 4 days it will be nothing but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but for the remaining 10 days I will be in Nepal, I have a friends wedding to go to but thought I would take a little longer over there and have a little break. I am really looking forward to the change in life for a week or so, I think it will be a unforgettable time.
The World of apple, Macbook pro to be more specific keeps getting better and better. The thing that had hit me in the past few days is the power of this thing, not just one thing but every component is very quick. I ran a screening for a friend last night from my mac and lets be honest running a video is not very demanding. To get the equipment set up I had to run a virtual windows 7, at the same time I my desktop running 1440×900 and my extended desktop running at 2048×1080, then I opened mail and it did not even slow down.
So I can see most people running macs through Tv’s or home projectors, I get to play with some more high end stuff, last night for this short film I had my mac plugged in to a £4000 scalier which was plugged in to a £35000 NEC2500 putting a 2048×1080 image on a screen 35 foot wide with 15 fLB on screen. We are the Avatar trailer of my mac as a test and it looked as good as what we get from our digital servers.
Im also now loving my new 3Gs, its just a nice quick update, I think the camera takes a much better image and even the video looks good.
As for word its been a few hard weeks, a nightmare of a film festival for 3 days did take a lot of attention but the rest of the building still needs running so I think they way im feeling now looks as if I ran at 150%. How ever much hard work it was it was still interesting and challenging and its nice to have a challenge every now and then. We ran Digi Beta, Beta Cam, Beta CamSR, 35mm, dvd, Blu-ray and some stuff in NTSC making things more complicated. The problems did not come from the different media but in the frame rates everything was set at, as the player was a loan and not through us we could not play 23.98 and 24 fps, so any tape in this frame rate would not play or go out of sync, its just hard when you care about what you put in screen.
So apart from feeling knackered from a very busy week, I have the flu and have only just started to feel better from the jabs for Nepal. I could do with starting to feel better before I do the midnight at Game for MW2,
Short film October 1, 2009

So for the past 3 years the company I work for hold a yearly short film competition, and for the past 3 years I have let it go by with out doing anything for it.
So I work with a lot of people who film and cinema is an interest to them, perfect for someone who want to make a short film, must be bursting with ideas, no so much. A lot of talk and not so much action. I didn’t really have an idea for a film and I don’t like things like scripts but I was going to be dammed if I was going to let another film festival pass be by so I entered.
For some reason after thinking got a good few days I did come up with a film idea but its very dark and depressing, starts with love and ends with loneliness. I don’t know why I would come up with this but again I didn’t want to do story or script I wanted to shoot it and edit it but my hand has been forced as there was no one wanting to do a film.
So most of the footage has been shot and I would say I need a little more and then the rough edit will be done, I have a few people going to look at it as a fresh set of eyes would help, also got a friend who edits very well who I thought of getting some help off just to make it look smother. You know I don’t expect to win anything, my plan has been to learn final cut pro and I have done in the past few weeks, then I move on to the sound side of things then the rendering/exporting side. I think the film will be ok when finished but that’s what happens when im filming it while being in it and thinking of the idea and script and then editing it, it would have been nice to work as part of a team to put something together but we will see how it all comes out

Ok so its been some time since I last visited my blog, as the title may give a hit it would be all busy at work. I had to go over to another or are sites the other day to help run a big event and what an event! I got to see some very early footage of an upcoming film, footage that I’m not even allowed to speak about, I would get it a lot of trouble if I did so I’m not, its very very good though.
I managed to go see AC/DC limewire last week and have a trip to see Guns 2 roses next week, it seams like it’s the time for tribute acts, I don’t mind they can be very good. Also going to see Reel Big Fist tonight at the Academy which should be good.
Ok have to go, I’m sure at some point I will have time for a more detailed blog.
No man’s land December 29, 2008

I do like to think of the time after Christmas and just before new years as no man’s land, no one is quite sure what to do, we all go back to work for a few days knowing we will be off aging for some fun and drinking so we kind of just get through. To be honest it’s a nice break from drinking as the last 5 days have been hard on the old liver, but it is the festive time and fun is to be had.
So after doing 350 miles in 3 days it all worked out well, I had a really nice festive time even with all the drinking involved. I got my really nice retro Casio watch so now I can tell the time without looking at the sun, Christmas would not be Christmas without socks, YAY! Some supper cool t-shirts (Best is the silver surfer), box of smelly stuff, beer (YAY again) a board game (thanks to the girl friends brother for keeping it retro) and cash, 28 and I still get cash off my parents, its just awesome. So with my new cash flow I decide to sink some of it in to more of a musical fund, yes Guitar Hero 4, I can now play with all the greats and sound just as good and it’s just so cool.
So as I said it’s the few days of winding down and its welcome after the Manchester – Sheffield – Manchester – Liverpool – bury – Manchester – Liverpool – Manchester 3 days, it’s a good job I love my car. So I’m just coming to the end of the first of 2 days at work, nice 13 hour days though so tomorrow will just be as long as today but then I’m off for a few days and back for one before being off for a few days again. It’s a good job as I have a list of things to do around the flat one of which is play guitar hero but that seems to be missing of the list my girl friend gave me, strange, typo maybe?
I think this Christmas will be remembered for all the people I got to see, I nearly got to see everyone who I care about over the 4 days and I got it done without someone being unhappy I was late or not there on such a day, its been a while since it all came together this well, that said I’m going away next year.
Weekend of TV September 13, 2008

Hallo there you lovely Manchester dwelling people.
I have not been blogging as much as I would have like for some time now, think it all breaks down in to a few areas that could have affected this.
- Just moved flats.
- Lack of internet connection
- Work is very busy
So I’m all in now, as the title of the blog may hint I now have a TV, you may think that this is not really important in a life and I would agree but not, we all watch TV and films and films are my friend, so I got a new tv, well I say new we just got our very first tv and what a TV. Prices have dropped very rapidly over the last few years when it comes to Plasma and LCD and with the cheaper LCD catching up in quality it was time to get one.
After searching around (that’s what I do) for a good few weeks I finally found the LG 37LF75, 37 inches of 1080i High definition glory, it took some haggling at Richer sounds, well I just stood there while he came down in price for about 30mins until he told me that I should go buy it from somewhere else as that’s as cheap he could go. I have now moved all my computer as that was our make shift tv for the time and now everything has its place.
Be final connect me to their internet after messing round for 2 weeks, to begin I was not too impressed with the time it took to get things sorted out but I have to say they are slowly getting better, the internet connection is very very fast, the fastest I have seen and I look around. So now I can email, blog and facebook like a trooper. I have to say not having the internet when you move could be the worst time to go without. So now I can catch up on some TV shows and the World Wide Web community.
My boss is off and has been for the last 2 weeks, I have someone keeping an eye on what I do so I can keep an eye on what my boss does, its working sort off. I cant expect anyone just to step in to my role and not make any mistakes or get everything covered but I have to say he is doing a good job and has made this time that my boss is off much easier to cope with. One thing I have been dealing with this the word premier of Ryan Gigs DVD where all the Manchester United Team are coming to the Printworks on Thursday evening, to be honest if it was Blackburn Rovers I would be excited but ManU are like marmite, you love them or hate them. I hate marmite.
So one more week at work then I have 2 weeks off, it has been a very long time since I have had a full 2 weeks off at the same time and I’m looking forward to it.

Good afternoon one and all,
So I have a week off, had to take some time at some point and seeing as I have about 3 weeks left I thought now was as good a time as any. So what I’m I going to do? Well apart from playing on some new Xbox 360 games I go the other day looking a flats would be one of the main things, got about 13 booked in for Monday and another 4 on Wednesday, I hope to find a new place to live out of that list but if not I have some time to have another look around.
Got a really nice email of my boss, his boss and then his boss for all the work I had put in over the last week and the problems at work, you know I never expected it but I cant tell you what a good feeling you can get from something so simple as an email, I think its just the fact that tease people took time out of there day to say thanks, its nice.
To leave you with something I spotted walking round the other day,
Can this be called an ‘Action Figure’ hahaha, this is just not right.
I missed the music in the summer July 19, 2008

I would have liked to have gone along to the summer in the park festival but I did not, 2 things cropped up that make it more difficult to go, one not having much money and the other was someone to go with. I was already to go on my own but after finding out that the tickets were more expensive on the door the money came back in to the equation. I did read a comment on one of the Manchester bloggers post and the person who made the comment said it was expensive, they ran out of beer and food so it can’t be all bad that I didn’t make it there.
Work has been interesting, I have 2 new jobs going in my department so it was interviews yesterday to find two new people for the full time position, I like doing interviews and like the one to one but the thing I don’t like is trying to pick someone who will probably be with us for many years. It also trying to find someone who will fit in with the team and work in a very quick, stressful environment and not just leave a few months down the line. Well I still have the rest of the day to come to some sort of conclusion. Hope it’s the right one.
Another thing that popped in to my head this week is a week of the beer, I have to say I have become very in live with beer and wine and most nights I will have a little drink or two, it’s not every night that I get blasted before you think I need to have a sit down with the AA but just a few drinks a night. Think it would be a good thing for mind and body to spend some time not drinking. Not tonight but soon!

Well it had final come, tonight I got to watch Batman, nearly 2 weeks early. Its about time as I have been waiting to watch this for a very long time. I will have a little review after I have seen it but I wont go in to any detail as I would like everyone to enjoy it as much as I hope to enjoy it (and I hate people who spoil films)

I have nothing to tell you, its has not been a good day for 2 reasons:
Reason 1
I rent with a friend and we both have girl friends so there are 4 people living in a 2 bed flat, we got our electricity bill a few weeks ago and to topped £1400 and we owe £990. The reason for this was unknown but I had an idea. The water we have is an on demand hot water and an extra boiler for a boost. The on demand stopped working and my flat mate set the boost to come on 6am-11, 12-5 and 6-11, after doing some research and test I found that this puts out daily usage to twice what we would normally use! Twice and I know it would have but no one wanted to listen. So that bill will take a year to pay off.
Reason 2
Work, its hard when you have a team that work really hard, the people above me outside of the department on see when things go wrong and I don’t have a problem with that as its part of my job to make sure they know they have done good and reward them, I don’t have many areas open to me to reward my staff but one thing I can give them is early shows of films. So when I come to check a big film I can get them to come as if there is a problem its just my team that see the mistake, I have made mistakes just like my team and I don’t mind that they see this but from the department perspective I want to make my department look good. This has been the way since we opened and I would like to see it as a perk of the job, it turns out that there are some un happy soles that don’t like someone seeing the film before them and have through there teddies out meaning my hard working team are now not allowed this perk. I’m angry, pissed off and very close to stopping all show where I have let people come to, I know I’m not the one that would be affected, I know what it looks like and you would be right, I want to get one back, that’s what you do when you are pissed off.
To put so much work in to getting shows on for people, tiring to get an many as I can in so if people are working they can come to another, being to one who sorts out 99% of all the shows, its just not nice to put all that work in for the people you get these shows on for to stab me in the back.
I have a day off tomorrow and I’m going to cool down, if when I get back I still feel the same I’m going to stop it all, my team are not affected and that’s my number one priority.

Was that just 7 days? May 31, 2008

Ok, apparently I have not updated my blog in some time! So here I go.
Work! Very busy! So I thought Indiana Jones would be busy but I missed the pull of Sex and the City, it have been very busy. I have to say well-done to the woman of Manchester, not only did everyone seam to dress up for going out to watch Sex and the City but they all look fantastic, it has been a wonderful atmosphere in the cinema over the past few nights and that all down to the audience.
You know how ever sad it sounds work has been my week, I finished the stories on GTA much to my girl friends delight (got her some flowers yesterday just to say sorry). Watched the last of The Wire which was just awesome, one of the best TV shows ever made.
I’m going to the concert in Liverpool tomorrow, Paul McCartney, The Kaiser Chiefs and the Zutons are playing and I quote “including a very special international superstar guest.” It should be a good day, its going to rain but I would expect nothing less.
Ok ok, trying to think of ANYTHING I have done this week ……………………. I ate, at the Trafford centre, with my dad ………… watched Street Kings, American Gangster and Doomsday which I thought they were all great film, ok Doomsday just for the gore. Spotted some girl from Girls allowed visiting the cinema the other day, could not really tell you which one, its all a bit too thin and fake for me, sorry.
Nope that’s it, quite week, busy but quite.
